Inikah controller PlayStation 4? Dec 4th 2012, 12:01 Kabar bahwa Sony sedang mempersiapkan PlayStation 4 semakin santer. Hal ini ditambah pendaftaran paten baru Sony yang terkait dengan controller PlayStation. Sony mendaftarkan paten baru tentang desain dan teknologi yang controller PlayStation. Pada paten tersebut, controller nampak menyerupai tampilan DualShock namun ditambah dua sensor Move di depannya. Controller baru tersebut dapat dipisahkan sehingga menjadi dua controller gerakan yang independen. Sony sebenarnya memiliki teknologi controller gerakan layaknya Nintendo Wii dan Microsoft Kinect yang diberi nama PlayStation Move. Namun Move dijual secara terpisah, hal ini membuat developer enggan membuat game yang mendukung controller tersebut. Sony berharap mengubah hal tersebut dengan controller barunya ini. Dengan Controller baru ini, Sony juga akan mengakhiri era DualShock yang telah lama digunakan. DualShock telah digunakan sejak generasi pertama PlayStation pada 1997 Tidak ada perubahan berarti pada layout atau teknologi DualShock membuatnya nampak ketinggalan zaman dibanding controller konsol lain. Ubahan terbaru pada DualShock adalah penambahan gyroscope dan acelerometer sehingga dapat mengendalikan dengan gerakan secara terbatas. Much like how the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controller combo separated the left and right hand input, the Sony controller patent goes one step further by allowing the two halves to be split and combined at any time â?? all without reducing the amount of buttons available. The patent also highlights the inclusion of a â??connection sensor for determining whether the controller is in a connected configuration or a disconnected configuration.â?? One of the PlayStation Moveâ??s biggest disadvantages is that itâ??s a separate controller and not the default one. As a result, most developers either saw it as merely a Wii Remote clone or as a niche controller with a limited install base not worth programming special controls for. If Sony were to include proper 1:1 motion controls within the default PS4 controller without turning its back on the â??coreâ?? controller, it could greatly appeal to casual and core gamers. Such a controller can be considered a natural evolution of the current DualShock 3 controller that sports limited motion controls using its three-axis accelerometer and gyroscope.
