Senat US of America Nyatakan Dukungan Terhadap Klaim Jepang atas Senkaku Dec 1st 2012, 05:24 Senate Reaffirms U.S. Commitment to Senkaku Islands Defense Washington, Nov. 29 (Jiji Press)--The U.S. Senate on Thursday approved a legislative amendment to acknowledge Japan's administration over the Senkaku Islands and reaffirm the U.S. commitment to defending the Japanese territory under the bilateral security treaty. The upper chamber of Congress unanimously adopted provisions including these points that were added to the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal 2013 from October 2012. The United States "acknowledges the administration of Japan over the Senkaku islands," the amendment says. China lays claim to the East China Sea islands known as Diaoyu in the country. The amendment also says, "The United States reaffirms its commitment to the government of Japan under Article 5 of the Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security," which stipulates the country's defense obligations to Japan. It is unusual for the United States to take a position on a territorial dispute between other countries in the law that stipulates the outline of its defense budget.
